The Elizabethan Rosebud by John von Daler

Shakespeare can be exhilarating for our post-Freudian audiences, because he never fills in any psychological background.
What do we know of the childhood of Iago? Do we care? Unlike Orson Welles, Shakespeare never promises you a rosebud. Not even in Hamlet.
What a relief.
